Given the darkness of the current economic climate many people are looking for ways to make a little extra money to supplement their dwindling income. While there are many ways a person might do this, one of the funnest and most profitable ways has been to sell coins on the Internet giant, eBay. Coins offer so much to those who choose to collect them that they are one of the oldest known collectible items around. While coin collectors can be found all around the world finding the person for the coins you have might be next to impossible without the exposure that eBay gives. Their audience is, literally, a worldwide clientele which greatly increases your chance of success when you sell. There are, however, some things you must remember to do when listing your coins for sale. 1) Keep in mind that your description of the item is of utmost importance. Accuracy is the key to a successful transaction. If you gloss over your item with verbiage meant to mislead it won’t be long before you being to get a reputation and/or a few complaints to boot. eBay is intently interested in the experience of both the buyer and the seller as they want to ensure the continued use of their site by both. Complaints are taken very seriously and sellers who gather to many of them are banned from their site. 2) It is not enough to give a good written description of the coin you have up for sale. You also need to have a good quality close-up of the item showing both the front and the back. There are several ways to get this done but the best way I know of is by using a flatbed scanner as it allows you to crop out unwanted areas from the image and it affords the zoom capability found only in the largest and most expensive of camera lenses. And since coins are flat objects you always get a good clean image to insert in your auction. 3) While loose coins can and do sell well on eBay, coins encapsulated and graded by one of the three largest coin grading services offers the buyer and added point of value which in turn gives you the seller a greater return. Coin grading services employ professional numismatists to certify the coins their customers send them. These long established grades determine the coins overall value, while the hermetically sealed holder preserves the coin in its current state. 4) Keep in mind that the reputation you gain while selling can make or break your future sales. Always give the customer exactly what they paid for. Switching items is not only bad business it can also be illegal. If a problem arises where a customer is dissatisfied address their concerns immediately. Work with them as much as you possibly can. Consider their happiness as the key to repeat business. If you offend someone you might win that particular argument but it can cost you in the end. Their negative feedback can turn potential customers away from your auctions. There you have it the four most important things to remember when selling coins on eBay. So simple you have to wonder why everyone isn’t making money this way.
